Monticello, UtahMonticello, Utah will be the base camp for the Ancient Trails Bike Tour.  The 5 Park Trip will start Sept. 22nd, 2008; the other dates for the Tour will be Sept. 23rd - 27th, 2008.  This incomparable area lies at the heart of one of the world’s most colorful and fascinating archaeological and geographical provinces.  Within a few hundred miles one can pass from the Abajo Mountains in the Manti-LaSal National Forest  across the Dixie National Forest and Grant Staircase Escalante National Monument, to Zion National Park, and travel through a kaleidoscope of geological formations, biological communities, and cultural diversity.

Bikers at Hole in the RockThese labyrinthine canyons and mesas conceal a vast and priceless array of prehistoric and historic remains.  Eons of tectonic and erosional forces have created world famous “textbook” exposures of geologic strata and igneous features.  Elevations range from under 4,000 to over 12,000 feet.  Archaeological and historic sites are abundant.  The cultural record covers virtually the full span of human occupation in the southwest.  Due to the preservation of archaeological remains, the area is unmatched in the world as a natural laboratory for the study of man’s critical transition from forager to city dweller.  Visit sites that are filled with history and spectacular vistas, including 5 National Parks, 2 National Monuments, 2 National Forests, 1 National Recreation Area, 6 State Parks, and 2 Navajo Tribal Parks.

On any one of the six daily tours, you can go back in time to the early days of western movies, or journey further back to the days when the early explorers and pioneers came to “settle” this remote part of the country, or retreat even further to the time when the American Indian inhabited much of the land between their “four sacred mountains,” or travel the land of the ancient Anasazi Indians who dwelled in the red rock cliffs, and finally back to the ice age hunting culture and observe some of the most scenic, majestic country in the entire world.

Spend the entire week in Monticello and enjoy a different tour every day and be sure to take time to golf at the award winning Hideout Golf Club.  For the more hardy and adventurous, take the Big Park Tour for 5 days 4 nights (Mon.-Fri.) (Tour 7).
